Essential Bar Supplies for Every Home Bar

If you enjoy entertaining in your home, you probably should outfit your home bar or mini-bar with essential bar supplies guaranteed to help you mix up the best cocktails and martinis.

Make sure you have highball glasses and double old-fashioned glasses. These are suitable for most mixed drinks. And even if you're not into wine, you should always keep a set of basic wine glasses on hand in case a guest brings over a bottle. Unless you consider wine a hobby, you do not need to have a glass set on hand specific to certain varitals. Find yourself a set of basic goblets or wine tumblers suitable for general red and white wines.

Of course, you should always have a wine opener on hand. These double as bottle openers so you do not have to invest in separate openers for both beer and wine. Some people prefer the ease of the winged corkscrew, but the waiter's corkscrew takes up less space and can be used with considerable speed once you get the hang of it.

It's not just James Bond who prefers his martini shaken and not stirred. Every mixologist knows the importance of making a proper martini and a martini glass set and a martini shakeris an absolute must for anyone who enjoys mixing a good drink. Invest in a cocktail shaker, made of metal with a lightly fitted strainer top.

Do you enjoy a frozen drink? Better get a bar blender. These are almost the same as your traditional kitchen blender (and kitchen blenders can always be used when making drinks), but are designed with a more slender shape, taking up less space in your bar area.

Depending on the drinks you enjoy making (and imbibing), there are a handful of other bar tools you may want to consider. Bar spoons are great for stirring and layering drinks, as well as removing olives or cherries from a jar. Muddlers allow you to mash up fruit and other ingredients in the bottom of the glass, ideal for concocting drinks like old-fashioneds, mojitos, caipirinhas and other drinks where more involved "mixing" is required. When making drinks needing fruit or garnishes, keep a and cutting boardnearby in order to eliminate any unnecessary trips back and forth to the kitchen sink.
